Stay

There are always moments to do what you love. Don’t be afraid to take them. This weekend was a great example. It was my grandmother’s 90th birthday and it became a mini family reunion. Instead of flying straight into Boston my wife and I decided to meet my cousin in Baltimore and drive the rest of the way. We picked up my other cousin, her sister, just outside of New York. A little road trip is good for the soul every once in a while, even if its bad for the neck! Towards the end of said road trip we thought, “wouldn’t it be cool if we got the cousins together to do a cover of Rihanna’s “Stay” and post it on YouTube.” We all agreed that it would indeed be cool.

Mike, my cousin, lives in LA working to pursue his dream as a songwriter and performing artist. His sister Katie lives in New York and is also an aspiring writer and performer. And here I am in Memphis working as a music producer and aspiring composer. We talked about our dreams and whats happening with us. It was a really encouraging time. Mike helped me define part of what this blog is becoming. He coined the phrase, “Story Scoring” its like story boarding and film scoring combined. Thanks Mike!

The party was great. My grandmother was so happy about seeing everyone. The morning after we spent an hour rehearsing for our “big show”. Being prepared is such a huge part of receiving and expressing inspiration. That afternoon we “snuck” into the local music shop and did our thing. My wife was the camera crew and our moms and nephew were the paparazzi. A few takes and it was done. The encouraging comments were a blessing to us and I think our courage to take a good idea and make it real and put ourselves out there was an encouragement to our family.

Enjoy the video of our final project. It was shot on the iPhone 5 and a little post production in Logic. It's a little different than other posts but still a good story and some good sounds.
